Plaka is a beautiful, small, traditional fishing village in Lasithi, Crete. In addition to bars and shops, the village has a good selection of excellent fish taverns. It is part of the municipality of Vrouchas, in the municipal unit of Agios Nikolaos and just 5 km along the coastal road from the resort of Elounda. It is close to the historic island of Spinalonga, which can be reached by boat. The former Venetian fortress and leper colony attracts many visitors from all over the world and has recently become even more famous thanks to the best-selling book “The Island”. Behind the village there is a well-kept pebble beach. Outside the village there are some larger hotels and complexes with holiday apartments.
