Topolia is a small inland village 48 km southeast of Chania town, about 20 minutes drive from Kissamos. Topolia is located on the slopes and offers wonderful views of the surrounding region. The most impressive place near this village is the Topoliano Gorge with a length of 1.500 m. This gorge has steep slopes with many caves along these slopes. The most important is the Cave of Saint Sophia with impressive stalactites and stalagmites. Topolia is a typical traditional Cretan village with stone houses, narrow streets and most residents are engaged in agriculture and livestock farming. The village has plenty of water, olive trees, chestnut trees and many poplar trees.
