Kalyves is a picturesque fishing village 19 km from Chania and 42 km from Rethymno. The village is amphitheatrical on the Calivian beach and built on two hills, including the Xydas River, which separates the village on two sides, connected by picturesque bridges.
The central beach of Kalyves is a sandy beach of about five hundred meters with shallow water. There are umbrellas and sunbeds along the beach. A big advantage of the beach in Kalyves is that there are large trees overall, so bathers can find natural shade.
