Elounda was a small fishing village in the Mirabello Bay on Crete. Although fishing still plays an important role in this picturesque area, tourism has become Elounda's main economic sector. Elounda is also the closest major town to the former leper colony of Spinalonga.

Agios Nikolaos is the capital of the Lasithi district and is located on the Mirabello Bay in northeastern Crete.
