Maleme is a small and quiet village between Chania and Kissamos. It is located on the old coastal road, 25 km west of Chania, where the houses are spread out along the road.
There are many places you can visit from Maleme. For example, you have the choice to drive a few kilometers and explore the western part of Crete with the Balos lagoon and the famous Elafonisi beach or spend majestic moments watching the sunset in Falassana.
Maleme is also known for its history. In World War II in 1941 it was one of the main targets during the invasion of Crete. The cemetery of the fallen German paratroopers is on the hill above Maleme, and there is also a memorial monument to commemorate the fallen of the British Air Force.
