Tymbaki (Timpaki) is a small town, 65 km south of Heraklion in the Messara plain. It is very close to the beach of Kokkinos Pirgos, but also to the palaces of Phaistos and Agia Triada. The inhabitants are mainly engaged in agriculture, while the area is full of olive groves and greenhouses. In fact, greenhouse crops are so numerous that many of the early products are exported daily. The town has no special beauties to show, as most of the buildings are newer. It is worth visiting the church of the village, Agios Titos, and drinking coffee in the various cafes of the square or raki in the small kafenio.
In addition, Timbaki is considered a town and so there are clothing stores, taverns, cafes, pharmacies and large supermarkets. Every Friday there is a market with vendors of clothing, vegetables and dairy products selling their wares on a main street in the city.
Kokkinos Pirgos Beach is a large sandy beach with shallow water suitable for families.
