Sfakaki is a coastal village of Pangalochori Municipality of Rethymno Municipality in Rethymno Regional Unit of Crete at an altitude of 7 meters. Sfakaki is located in Almyros Bay at a distance of 9 km east-northeast from the city of Rethymno, between the settlements of Pigianos Kampos (SW), Pangalochori (S) and Skaleta (NE), while the EO90 passes through it or the northern road axis of Crete (BOAK) leads. Parts of a cemetery from the Late Archaic and Early Classic periods as well as remains of residential areas were found in the area. For this reason, the area that includes the settlements of Sfakaki and Pagalochori is a continuation of the Stavromenos – Hamaleuri area and has been declared an archaeological site.
In addition to the important archaeological sites of the area, the visitor can eat in the existing taverns and enjoy the beautiful waters of Sfakaki Beach. Due to the beach and proximity to the town of Rethymno, remarkable state-of-the-art hotel units have been created in Sfakaki that meet the requirements for an ideal holiday. -

The quiet village of Sfakaki is located about 10 km east of Rethymno and belongs to the municipality of Arkadi, which is best known for the famous Venetian monastery of Arkadi. The small seaside resort of Sfakaki has tourist facilities, there are several hotels and guest houses, excellent taverns, bars and shops. Along the village and the sea runs the long sandy beach of Sfakaki, which is considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the north coast of Crete and makes the place a popular tourist destination. The water is shallow and crystal clear and ideal for families with children. Sfakaki beach is well organized, there are places with sunbeds and umbrellas in front of the hotels and apartments, and there are several taverns and beach bars near the beach. A local attraction are the huge sea turtles that come out of the sea at night between May and September and lay their eggs in the sand on the beach. Since the turtles are an endangered and protected species, conservationists work on the beaches to mark the turtle nests. The tourist-friendly resort of Sfakaki is still one of the quieter and more peaceful places, so don't expect a wild nightlife here. Thanks to the good transport links (bus connections or by car), it is easy to get to a neighboring resort such as Rethymno, Skaleta, Stavromenos, Adelianos Kampos, etc.
