Roussa Ekklisia is a place in the northeast of Crete, in the district of Lasithi. The nearest large town, Sitia, is about 8 km away. The village is known for its beautiful mountain landscape. There are also many great beaches not far from Roussa Ekklisia. There are many myths surrounding the origin of the name ("red church"). The most likely explanation is that the village church was built on the reddish earth that is typical for this area.
