Perama is a small town in the Geropotamos district, which lies on the northern coast of Crete. Its area is characterized by sheep farming and agriculture.
Four kilometers east of the village of Perama is the Melidoni Cave (Gerontospilios), which served as a place of worship in Minoan times. Also not far away to the south is the village of Eleftherna, which is surrounded by settlement remains from a wide variety of eras, dating back to the Minoan period.
