Kefalas is a traditional, quiet village, the highest on the Apokoronos peninsula, just over 340 meters above sea level. Due to its location, it offers spectacular panoramic views of the Cretan Sea and the "White Mountains." The settlement has existed there for many centuries, as can be easily seen from the ancient trees, traditional architecture, and numerous churches and chapels. The Venetians left a strong mark on the village when they built houses and shops here, including olive presses and arches that can still be seen today. It is a large village, and amenities include mini markets, kafenia, and tavernas. Further shopping is available in Vamos, just five kilometers away. The sandy beaches of Almyrida and Georgioupolis are about a 15-minute drive away. The historic city of Chania is 30 kilometers along the coast to the west.
