The village of Atsipopoulo is located in the north of Crete, about 7 km west of Rethymno, and is known for its beautiful architecture. This is thanks to the Venetians who inhabited the area from the 14th to the 17th century. The houses have been restored so that the village has retained the appearance of the Venetian period. During the Ottoman occupation, the good strategic location of Atsipopoulo ensured that the Cretans fought here in many battles against the Turks. From the 1990s, Atsipopoulo became a suburb of the city of Rethymno, preserving the Venetian character mixed with Cretan architecture. In the village you will find all amenities such as restaurants serving local cuisine, cafes and shops. You can visit many beautiful beaches in this area, with the nearest one being only 7 km from the village. The distance to Chania airport is 65 km.
