About a kilometer from the larger villages of Almyrida and Gavalochori, Aspro is located on a hill in Apokoronas. An ancient Cretan village once occupied by the Turks. The village still preserves architectural evidence of its past. Quaint stone alleys, beautiful flowers and vines, olive plantations, a beautiful little church, the ringing of goat bells and narrow paths to explore - Aspro is quiet and peaceful. Secluded and quiet but not isolated as just a two minute drive away is the lively seaside resort of Almyrida with its cafes, bars, shops and taverns. Aspro offers great hiking opportunities, including a mountain path down to the road to the historic village of Gavalochori. Aspro overlooks Souda Bay towards Almyrida. There aren't many people living there and it's as if time has stood still. Some of the old houses have been renovated, others are still ruins or are currently being renovated. It is a place for people who love silence and not a place for people who want to go out and party.
