The beautiful and historic town of Agios Nikolaos (Saint Nicholas) is the capital of the Lasithi prefecture and a busy seaside resort that attracts many visitors from all over the world. Famous for the spectacular bottomless lake, it has a lively port area, a marina, some fantastic beaches and all the shops and facilities of a major city. Agios Nikolaos is located in eastern Crete, on the western shore of the Gulf of Mirabello. Agios Nikolaos has a population of just under 20.000, there are several banks, supermarkets, all kinds of shops, doctors, a modern hospital of high standard, a public swimming pool and tennis courts, a marina, a port, a cinema, a theatre, gyms, a 9-hole golf course, schools from kindergarten to 6-level high school and generally all the amenities you would expect in a modern European town.
The microclimate is one of the best in Greece and the temperate temperatures rarely exceed 30°C in summer and rarely fall below 15°C in winter.
